Panel upgrades

Older panels weren't built for today's loads: EV chargers, heat pumps, induction ranges and home offices. We upgrade or replace panels that are undersized, damaged or past their service life, and handle the permit, inspection and utility coordination.

What's included

  • Main panel replacement and service upgrades
  • Subpanels for garages, ADUs and additions
  • Replacement of outdated or recalled panels
  • Breaker, grounding and bonding corrections

EV chargers

A Level 2 charger needs its own properly sized circuit. We check your panel's capacity first, then install the charger and circuit so it charges at full speed without tripping breakers.

What's included

  • Level 2 home charger installation
  • Dedicated 240V circuit and outlet
  • Panel capacity check before install
  • Garage, driveway and exterior mounting

Dedicated circuits

Big appliances and tools shouldn't share a circuit. Dedicated circuits stop nuisance trips and overheated wiring, and give equipment the power it was designed for.

What's included

  • Kitchen appliances, ranges and microwaves
  • Washers, dryers and water heaters
  • HVAC, heat pumps and mini-splits
  • Workshops, spas and home offices

Lighting & LED upgrades

New lighting changes how a home looks and feels. We install and upgrade lighting inside and out, from recessed lights to landscape and security lighting, with controls that make it easy to use.

What's included

  • Recessed, pendant and under-cabinet lighting
  • LED fixture upgrades
  • Exterior, landscape and security lighting
  • Dimmers, timers and motion sensors

Troubleshooting

Breakers that keep tripping, outlets that stop working and lights that flicker all have a cause. We trace it, fix it properly, and explain what happened.

What's included

  • Tripping breakers and dead circuits
  • Flickering or dimming lights
  • Warm outlets, switches or panels
  • GFCI outlets that won't reset

Emergency service

Sparking, burning smells, water near electrical, or a sudden loss of power need fast attention. Call (858) 731-6233 so we can help make it safe. If there is fire, smoke or someone is hurt, call 911 first.

What's included

  • Loss of power to part of the home
  • Sparking or burning smells
  • Water near panels or outlets
  • Storm or accident damage

Division 05 · FAQ

Common questions

Do I need a permit for a panel upgrade or EV charger?

In most cases, yes. When the work requires a permit, we pull it, schedule the inspection and coordinate with SDG&E when the service has to be disconnected.

Can my panel handle an EV charger?

It depends on your panel's size and what's already on it. We check the panel's capacity before installing a charger, and tell you if an upgrade is needed.

How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?

Common signs are breakers that trip often, no room for new circuits, plans for an EV charger, heat pump or remodel, or an older panel that's damaged or past its service life.

Do you work on ADUs and remodels?

Yes. We handle subpanels, new circuits and lighting for ADUs, garage conversions, additions and remodels.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Niu Electric LLC is licensed in California under CA C-10 Contractor License #984005, and is licensed, bonded and insured.
